Bird and Barrel recently visited one of our favourite wineries, Windowrie in beautiful Canowindra, for their annual Long Lunch, which WAS long and which we didn’t want to end! The O’Dea family have owned Windowrie since 1959, diversifying into winemaking in the 1980s. More recently production has evolved to include organic wine production through the Pig in the House label.
2 x Family Reserve Pinot Noir
1 x Pig in the House Organic Chardonnay
2 x Eye Chart Organic Shiraz
1 x Pig in the House Organic Sauvignon Blanc
Pig In The House vineyard (which was originally home to 20 free range pigs) is located 20 kilometres from Cowra in the beautiful Central Ranges of New South Wales. The 15 acre vineyard was established in 1996 and is owned and managed by Jason and Rebecca O’Dea.
First up we bring you two whites – The Pig Sauvignon Blanc, an aromatic wine demonstrating varietal passionfruit, gooseberry and citrus aromas. And The Pig Chardonnay, a leaner style of Chardonnay – perfect for this time of year – it’s lively and refreshing with notes of nectarine, lemon and peel.
The Preservative Free Organic Shiraz is next, under the Eyechart label (see if you can read all the way to the bottom of the label!). Deep purple with plum jam aromas, this is just a wonderful wine – and being preservative free and organic is just a bonus.
And a special treat for Pinot Noir lovers from Bird and Barrel – in the box you’ll find 2 bottles of the Windowrie Family Reserve Pinot Noir – a special wine. A generous and luscious Pinot and a consistent award winner ( the 2015 won a Gold Medal at the Sydney Wine Show, Trophy for Best Pinot Noir at the Orange Wine Show. It then went on to win the Winewise Championship – judged best of the best amongst Australia’s Trophy winning Pinot Noirs). This vintage available while stocks lasts.
