Rusty Bike is one of Bird and Barrel’s recent discoveries – a small boutique producer located at Houghton in the picturesque Adelaide Hills. The name “Rusty Bike” comes from the old bike sitting in the cottage garden leaning against the fence … how that bike found its way into our back yard, well that’s another story! And so Rusty Bike Wines was born.
1 x The Penny Farthing GSM
2 x The Tricycle Rosé
2 x The Racer Riesling
1 x The Roadster Sparkling Malbec
Rusty Bike’s grapes are sourced from various premium vineyards located throughout the Adelaide Hills and other wine regions. The winemaking process is traditional, the grapes being handpicked, fermented in small batches, basket pressed and followed by slow maturation in quality oak.
The Bird’s first pick is an easy one – The Tricycle Rosé, the wine that originally led us to Rusty Bike – it’s a multi-regional blend of Grenache, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Mataro, beautifully aromatic, light, crisp and dry.
Since unearthing the Rose, we’ve discovered some more hidden gems from “Rusty” – The Racer, a single Clare Valley Riesling, showing pristine aromatics of orange blossom and freshly zested limes. And the Penny Farthing (you’re getting the theme here!), an opulent traditional old-world blend of Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro, sourced from McLaren Vale and Clare Valley.
And if you’re wondering about the Sparkling Malbec you’ll be pouring with your Christmas in July turkey this year, look no further! In this pack of 6, we’re going to put in a bottle of The Roadster Sparkling Malbec – the layers of cherry and spice in this wine will make you the host with the most this festive season!
